PHOTO GALLERY
|
| Be aware, that the Photo Gallery is a very graphics-intensive page, with lots of photographs. So if you haven't figured it out yet, it's going to take a while to load on slower phone line connections. If you're an AOL user, call AOL tech support for info on how to "uncompress" the images your browser displays, so the photos will appear clearer on all of your web pages. |
Ok folks, this is it... a page just for you! No distracting backgrounds or other photos on this page; just a blank pallet for your creative use! The photo gallery page is for Powder Springs residents to post their own photos! A place where you, your pet, or your creative juices, can be a star!
If you know how to attach a photo you've scanned, taken with a digital camera, or have on a picture disk on your computer to an email, then you can click ---> HERE <--- and send it to us for the page. If you do not know how to do this, you can mail us a photo to the address we list just below, and we'll scan it for you and put it on the page! No pranks - you'll need a signed permission from someone if you're submitting a photo of someone other than yourself. You must include your name and email address in order for the photo(s) to be placed on the page, but we'll only put your first name on the public page so privacy is maintained for the shy.
You can mail your photos to:
The Powder Springs Post
3705 New Macland Road, # 233
Powder Springs, GA 30127-1966
So, send them in. Photos of your garden, your pets, or even a town treasure (or eyesore) that you see. Start snapping away.

A larger version of the photo will appear. You can then click your browser's "Back" button to return here, or close the secondary window with the larger photo that appears (depending on your browser).

Photographer Greg was at the town square tree lighting and merchant open house this past weekend (12/4/04 ) and captured some shots of Santa, a great singer, and some merchants. As always, click on the thumbnails to see a larger version, and explanations of each photo are below the thumbnails.
PLEASE NOTE: The numbers below the pics may or may not line up
correctly with each photo depending on the resolution you have your monitor set
at. This is unavoidable as our program we use to make web pages doesn't always
take into account different people are using different sized monitors that
display things differently. If they appear misaligned, just count
from left to right on each row to find the explanations below.

Autumn Photos 2004:
We're not getting any autumn shots from residents this year! Below is a pic by Greg taken in front of the store at Country Walk (the light was added in the posts as they weren't on). Please send us YOUR Autumn shots by clicking HERE.
6/27/04: "Country Gathering 2004".
This year saw the standard fare of antique dealers, a band, some food vendors, and kid area. New this year were a number of artists setting up booths in the bank parking lot, and it was a welcome site to see. Too bad it rained out off and on so much. Shortly after starting to take photos, we were drenched. I'd like to see some folks vote on when this event takes place. It seems that each year in summer when we have it, it's either hot as heck, or it rains. I put in a vote to the powers that be, that this event be moved to October or November, so it could maybe act as a "fall festival" type of thing. I'm curious to see other's opinions. The pics are small this year, but when you click a thumbnail as usual, a slightly larger photo will appear.
As per last year, the blacksmith (3rd photo, Ted Vogelsberg of "Bird Mountain Iron Werks" 770-832-6913) did a good job looking mean for the camera. (But he's nice).
1st shot is of the antiques area. 2nd of the artist market. 3rd Mr. Blacksmith. 4th one of the shops, and where chair caning was being done. The 5th shows work in progress of the new streetscape downtown on the sidewalks. Last are local shops.
1/24/03: "Lighting of the Tree in Town Square"
Oh, I FINALLY got around to putting this pics up. I'll have to comment that this years Christmas tree lighting seemed to be very scaled back over last years. There were no lights strung from tree to tree in the town square, the sound system for the singers died at one point, there were no smaller trees decorated by local kids like last year, and due to the cold, the turnout was pretty low. Still, there were a few things to see. The pics below are of the new tree, some of the children's groups who sang, and one snapshot of Mayor Hulsey and the new Mayor Vaghn. As usual, clicking on a small image will allow you to view the larger version of it.
11/04/03: "Christmas Open House 2003"
Here are a few photos of the Christmas open house this year. Fewer businesses participated in it on the same weekend this time around but a few photos are online. This includes the restaurant now in back of Helen's antique shop!
10/04/03: "The Avenue of West Cobb"
Photos of this new shopping area were to be added to the gallery during this update, however, we were treated so poorly by them when we tried to take photos of their Grand Opening weekend events, that we have decided not to promote them. If you'd like to read about what happened, you may do so by clicking HERE. things eventually got a little smoothed over but we're not going to add photos.
The annual "Country Gathering" held recently drew a good attendance this year. Sponsored by local antique shops, it brought out dealers, artisans, and food vendors. Thanks to the Country Store of Seven Springs for starting the event, and all of the other antique shops who were also sponsors for bringing this event here again this year. Here are some shots.
The great metal works (photos 1 & 2) are by Ted Vogelsberg of "Bird Mountain Iron Werks". He does excellent custom items and even fences! He can be reached at 770-832-6913
Pottery (photo 3) of all colors can be purchased by R.T.Roller of "Potters Rhumb" at 770-258-9616
Photo 4 represents the Greater Atlanta Basket Guild. They have monthly meetings, and "Nancy" even gives lessons on how to create some great looking woven baskets. Their number is 770-426-5594. Some of the items at the gathering can also be found at "Aunt Pattie's Basketry Shop" by calling 770-427-4942.
Chair "caning" and reworking (photo 5) is done by Jack Worrill from Marietta. He does incredible work, and gives lessons, too! Contact him at 770-514-8718.
The last photo shows one row of the vendor booths at the event.
A recent Powder Springs police event at the Publix shopping center raised awareness for "just say no".
On Saturday May 31st, there was a car show (called "Cruise Night", to be repeated in August) in the town square. Lots of folks showed up to show off their hot rods. Our photo guy Greg was there, and recorded the event digitally. See the note just below if you wish to purchase full sized images from this event. (photos added 5/31/03).
